I was tagged by Care Johnson and Sarah from Digital Motherhood to do the Christmas Tag and thought it would be good to make up for the lack of posts lately. I quite like blogger tags in general so i thought this would be a bit of fun:
What’s your favourite Christmas movie?
For the past few years it’s been The Holiday. I always watch it early December (or even earlier) when hints of festivities has begun. I just love the intertwining stories and generally makes me happy!
Have you ever had a white Christmas?
I think there’s probably been one in my 23 years of being on this planet. I do remember (thanks to Facebook memories) about 6 years ago there were 4 inches of snow around this time of year! I think snow fall happens mostly in January though!
Where do you usually spend your holiday?
Apart from one year where my ex partner and son stayed in our flat with his mum for Christmas, I’ve always spent it with my family (my mum’s side). Which is perfect because it’s one of few occasions that bring us all together.
What is your favourite Christmas song?
Nat King Cole – The Christmas Song, it’s just a classic! Everytime i hear it i can’t help but sing along.
Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
This has never really been a thing in our family, if anything i probably opened one thing from my stocking as a kid. But it was always an early start Christmas day to start unwrapping presents!
Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
Prancer, Dancer, Vixen, Rudolf – that’s the best you’re getting from me! aha
Which holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?
Seeing as it’s only days till Christmas i can only answer this in hindsight – i generally love the hustle and bustle of the town and markets at this time of year. I couldn’t pass up a festive drink at Costa and Starbucks, i guess that’s my own little tradition!
Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
This year it’s fake, before i moved i had the loveliest 6ft tree with golden sparkly tips and pincones. It was fabulous!
What is your all time favourite holiday treat/food/sweet?
Now i can’t name just one! I love Terry’s Chocolate Oranges and Ferrero Rocher’s at this time of year, i only allow myself to have them at Christmas. Roasted chestnuts are a new fave too as i tried them for the first time last year!
Be honest, do you like giving or receiving gifts better?
This is really hard to answer, as of course giving gifts is an amazing feeling but i always feel anxious about whether i’ve got it right and if they actually love it and don’t just pretend to, i’d hate for it to collect dust or be forgotten about, which is why i usually get things like bath bombs and food or even better, make a lovely edible treat! And also without sounding ungrateful, sometimes i get presents i just won’t ever use – especially when it comes to my morals cruelty free beauty – i wouldn’t use a product from a brand that i don’t support and would rather donate it to someone who’d use it. Does that make me sound like a right cow?! Maybe i should be prepared and write a list next year – but then that makes me feel contrived.. Eh, i become less and less bothered about gifts as each year goes by! It’s definitely all about food and family.
What is the best Christmas present you ever received?
When i was a kid i got a Sylvanian family mansion, i’m sure i played with it every day for months! Ahh reminds me of a simpler time. Also another year i finally got The Sims (after months of begging and reminding), with about 3 expansions packs, that was a good day!
And as an adult, hmm, one that comes to mind is my secrent santa gift when i worked at Lush. We were given a budget of £10, and i got a jumper that had ‘you can’t sit with us’ on it – if you’re a Mean Girls enthusiast like me you’ll understand how elated i was with that.
What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
I would LOVE to go to somewhere like Norway, beautiful scenery, snow, chances of seeing the Norther Lights. That would be perfect. I’d also love to go to New York one year too, it blew me away when i visited about 8 years back and bet it would be magical at this time of year.
Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?
I wouldn’t say i’m a pro, i’m not shabby but i end up getting impatient and make silly mistakes!
Most memorable Christmas moment?
For me as a parent, it would be seeing Corben’s face lite up when he opens presents. He’s so easily pleased and ends up getting overwhelmed at the amount when he’s just so happy to be playing with a new thing that he loves. I do vividly remember the year i was pregnant too, my mum and i went to stay with a friend in Penzance, Cornwall which was such a nice break from the norm. My hormones were so out of control that i ended up crying myself to sleep on Christmas Eve, aha i can laugh at it now!
What made you realise the truth about Santa?
I was in denial for a LONG time, i can’t remember exactly when i found it, but i wrote a letter when i was about 11 (which is a hilarious read btw) to father christmas saying that i still believe no matter what other people say and continued to list what i wanted. I think i just wanted to hold on to the magic for a little bit longer before i let it go!
What makes the holidays special for you?
The whole month of December is pretty special for me, it’s the lead up to Christmas that’s the most exciting and just having an excuse to get all the family together, enjoy lots of delicious food, spread joy and enjoy the merriment. I actually wrote a post about my favourite things about Christmas, take a peek.
